Alabama Top Team in GolfWorld/Nike Golf Division I Coaches' Poll
(NEW YORK, NY) - The first Golf World/Nike Golf Division I College Coaches’ Poll of the Spring 2014 season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III, NAIA and NJCAA will appear in the March 3, 2014 issue of Golf World. Alabama, fresh off winning its fifth title of the season to remain undefeated thus far in 2013-14, sits atop the first spring edition of the Golf World/Nike Golf men's Division I college coaches' poll.
The Crimson Tide earned 18 of 19 first-place votes to maintain their No. 1 ranking from the fall as the school claimed the team title at the Puerto Rico Classic to open the spring semester. The victory was its 11th straight back to last spring, a run in which Alabama claimed its first NCAA title.
California and Oklahoma State, both winners already this spring, shared the No. 2 spot in the poll. The Golden Bears recently won the rain-shortened John Burns Intercollegiate for a record fourth-straight year. The Cowboys were victorious earlier in the month at the Amer Ari Invitational.
Georgia Tech and Georgia rounded out the top five. No new programs joined the top 10 since the last fall poll. One new school entered the top 25: No. 24 Auburn after its win at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
