Alabama Tops GolfWorld/Nike Golf Division I Coaches' Poll
(NEW YORK, NY) — The latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division I College Coaches’ Poll of the Spring 2014 season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III, NAIA and NJCAA will appear in the March 31, 2014 issue of Golf World. Alabama remains atop the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division I men's college coaches' poll.
The Crimson Tide's bid for a perfect 2013-14 season fell earlier in the month when the squad lost its first tournament of the season. Five victories in eight starts helped the defending NCAA champions earn 17 of the available 20 first-place votes.
California laid claim to the No. 2 spot after winning the National Invitational Tournament, the team's sixth victory of the season. Oklahoma State followed in the No. 3 position, the Cowboys having won four times under first-year coach Alan Bratton. Rounding out the top five are in-state rivals Georgia Tech and Georgia.
One new team moved into the top 10: No. 7 Houston. The Cougars have won three straight events and make their highest ever appearance in the ranking since it was reinstated in 2001-02.
Two new schools joined the top 25: No. 22 South Carolina and No. 24 UNLV.
