Oklahoma State Remains Number One in GolfWorld/Nike Golf DI Coaches' Poll

(NEW YORK, NY)—The latest Golf World/NIKE Golf Division I Coaches’ Poll has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, NIKE Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III and the NAIA, will appear in the May 2, 2011 issue of Golf World. Oklahoma State, winner of six team titles in the 2010-11 season, retained the top spot in the Golf World/NIKE Golf Division I men’s poll, claiming 19 of the 22 available first-place votes.

The Cowboys have been the No. 1 ranked team in every poll during the season and have been in the top five in every poll since April 2008. They enter the postseason as the favorite to claim the NCAA title as they host the national championship at their home course, Karsten Creek GC, in June. OSU has three players, Peter Uihlein, Morgan Hoffman and Kevin Tway, who have all been named semifinalists for one of college golf’s top individual honors, the Ben Hogan Award.

UCLA held on to its No. 2 spot, earning two first-place votes, as the Bruins prepare to play in the upcoming Pac-10 Championship. Tied for third are a pair of SEC rivals, Florida, which claimed the conference title earlier this month, and Alabama. Rounding out the top five is Georgia Tech, which earned its third straight ACC title and fifth in six years.

One new school moved into the top 10: No. 9 LSU, which won its fourth title of the season at the University Club Intercollegiate last month.

Two schools joined the top 25: No. 22 Oregon and No. 23 Tennessee.

Note: voting closed April 21, before the outcome of the ACC and Big 12 championships had been decided.
