Oklahoma State Retains Top Spot in Golf World/Nike Golf DI Coaches' Poll

NEW YORK, NY—The latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches’ Poll has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III and the NAIA, will appear in the March 21, 2011 issue of Golf World. Ranked No. 1 since the start of the 2010-11 season, Oklahoma State maintained its place atop the Golf World/Nike Golf Division I men’s coaches’ poll, earning eight of the 17 available first-place votes.

The Cowboys had earned three team titles prior to the voting, then won a fourth tournament this past weekend when they were victorious at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas.

Three of OSU’s starting five—Peter Uihlein, Morgan Hoffmann and Kevin Tway—have stroke averages of 71.86 or better with the Cowboys finishing no worse than T-5 in their seven starts.

UCLA held its place at No. 2, earning four first-place votes, while Alabama rose from No. 5 to No. 3, thanks to victories at the Puerto Rico Classic and Palmetto Intercollegiate. Georgia Tech dropped one spot but maintain its place in the top five of the poll.

One new team joined the top 10: San Diego State, which shared the sixth spot with Illinois. The Aztecs have won four tournament titles and the T-6 position in the poll is the best they have ever been since the poll was restored in 2000-01. SDSU also made the biggest move in the poll, jumping six spots.

No new teams joined the top 25.
