The 25th Annual National Convention was held at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas December 10th – 12th.  The National Advisory Board’s (NAB) annual meetings were held prior to effects of levitra professional the convention on December 8th and 9th along with the GCAA Rules Workshop and in conjunction with the College Golf Combine and the AJGA’s ShowMeGolfers Junior Championship.  The following is a recap of the week’s activities which were attended by 220 GCAA member coaches.

Friday, December 7

Day 1 Rules Workshop; Instructors were Brad Gregory and Mark Wilson of the PGA of America.

Saturday, December 8

First Round of AJGA ShowMeGolfers Junior Championship at Stallion Mountain Golf Club.

Final Day Rules Workshop including rules test for all participants.

NAB meeting Day 1

  • Agenda items include review of www.drk-dillenburg.de 2012 budget to date and expected year end; review of 2012 events including Match Play, Junior World Cup, and Palmer Cup.
  • Review of all awards programs along with proposed changes to operating procedures.

Sunday, December 9

Final round of AJGA ShowMeGolfers Junior Championship.

College Golf Combine held at Angel Park Golf Club.

NAB meeting Day 2

  • Discussion of 2013 membership fees and proposed retired coach lifetime membership.
  • Discussion of recent Past President’s conference call, along with the creation of a President’s Scholarship Fund benefiting sons, daughters, and grandchildren of active GCAA member coaches.
  • Discussion about 2013 Palmer Cup event to be held at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, DE along with an presentation by Mark Laesch (Golfstat) on new Palmer Cup player rankings.
  • Further discussion about proposed changes to the All-America Scholar operating procedures including reducing the percentage of competitive dates of viagra alternative natural competition from 70% to 50% as part of the selection criteria.
  • Discussion of the proposed 2013 GCAA budget.
  • Hall of Fame Reception.

Monday, December 10 (Convention Day 1)

Ryan Moore, PGA Tour/UNLV – Ryan Moore held an informal Q&A with moderator J. C. Deacon, current assistant coach UNLV and Ryan’s former roommate.  Topics included looking back on his college career and on we choice things he might have done differently; evaluating state of game now as compared to early years as a professional; today’s young college players and how prepared they are for playing professional golf; his thoughts regarding use of instructors for his game and of today’s young players;  his strong belief that young players should learn their own swing and how to cialis generic india play their game as opposed to trying to find the perfect golf swing.

General Business Meeting

President Todd Satterfield conducted meeting.  Topics included:

  • Treasurer Bruce Heppler’s presentation of www.epshellas.com 2012 budget to date and projected year end;  An overview on proposed 2013 budget; The continued  growth of convention in Las Vegas and acknowledged the overall financial health of the Association has never been stronger than today.

  • Elections were held for Division III Director (Bob Simms, St. Johns Fischer elected); NAIA Representative-at-Large (Chris Winkel, Grand View elected); Bylaw changes to GCAA constitution were approved.
  • Recognition of 2012 Palmer Cup coaches –Team USA Head Coach, Josh Gregory, SMU; Team USA Assistant Coach, Christian Newton, Colorado State; Team Europe Assistant Coach, David Inglis, Northwestern.

  • Guest speakers included Ed Gowan, Executive Director Arizona Golf Association and Tournament Director for Patriot All-America Invitational. Gowan presented video from last year’s event, updated attendees on this year’s field and schedule of events and encouraged those coaches who have participants in the field to support the Folds of Honor charity through donation for golf bags carried during the www.ahg-ahaus.de event.
  • Mark Wishner, Executive Director Sun SafeTee Program.  Mark updated attendees on different events to be held in 2013 and encouraged coaches to continue to talk about skin cancer education with players.
  • Necrology Report – A report was give for coaches who passed away in 2012.

  • New Business

Division I Breakout – Donnie Wagner, NCAA, and members of Division I Men’s Golf Committee discussed issues and concerns with membership.  Included, but not limited to, championship future format, and possibility of 72-hole individual championship.  Coaches in attendance strongly supported concept of an additional day added to order viagra pay with paypal tournament to allow the individual championship to be extended to 72 holes.  Golf committee will consider this in the future.  Donnie Wagner will work with committee to evaluate budgetary concern of this item.

SunSafeTee Skin Cancer Screening - Local dermatologists, as arranged by Mark Wishner with SunSafeTee, provided a screening for all coaches who wished to participate.   68 coaches were screened with 14 recommended for follow-up with their personal dermatologist.

Tuesday, December 11 (Convention Day 2)

Three featured speakers spoke during the morning session.  These included:

Randy Smith – Randy Smith, this year's Featured Instructor, had an informal Q&A format with moderator Greg Sands from Texas Tech University.  Topics included looking back on the accomplishments of great collegiate players who Randy worked with both as junior golfers through their professional careers (i.e. Justin Leonard, Harrison Frazier, Ryan Palmer, John Rollins and Martin Flores).  Also discussed was what makes a great player’s swing versus the ability to play the game and what today’s young players need to cheapest propecia prescription do to make them better prepared to play at the next level.

Billy Schroeder, Vice President of Player Relations, PGA Tour – Billy’s presentation included updating coaches on the new format for obtaining PGA and Web.com tour cards beginning in 2013.  Other topics included how coaches can better prepare their players for playing professionally and questions from coaches on a variety of topics (i.e. development of PGA Tour policy regarding social media and its similarities with college players).

  • Assistant Coach – Meeting chaired by GCAA Assistant Coach Liaison Blake Smart, Oklahoma.   Cricket Musch with NIKE Golf held an informal Q&A session with coaches.  Approximately 38 in attendance 
  • NCAA Division II – Chaired by Representative at Large Steve Card, Western Washington and Division II Director Brent Nicoson, Indianapolis.  Donnie Wagner, NCAA Championship Staff, discussed Division II Championship issues and concerns; Approximately 28 in attendance.
  • NCAA Division III – Chaired by Representative at Large Bob Alpers, Saint John’s, and Division III Director Dan Ruyle, Southwestern.   Donnie Wagner, NCAA Championship Staff, discussed Division III Championship issues and concerns; Approximately 18 in attendance.
  • NAIA -  Chaired by NAIA Golf Coaches Association President, Kyle Blaser , Oklahoma City; GCAA NAIA Representative Jeff Griebel, Saint Ambrose; and NAIA Staff Representative Chris Muehlbach; Championship issues and concerns along with future sites were discussed.   Approximately 15 in attendance.
  • NJCAA I & II – Session conducted by Mike Hagen, Indian Hills and Jake Harrington, South Mountain; Approximately 6 in attendance.

GCAA Corporate Partners Exhibit Night

62 Corporate Partners and Friends of the Association were in attendance; GCAA member coaches and guests had access to all partners from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Approximately 285 in attendance.

GCAA/Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Officer’s Dinner -  GCAA President Todd Satterfield and discount drugs viagra 100mg WGCA President Janet Carl from Cincinnati hosted a dinner with representation from respective boards and WGCA Executive Director Roger Yaffe and GCAA CEO Gregg Grost.  Discussion items included the 2013 convention to be held on same property Planet Hollywood and possible joint sessions/speakers.  Also discussed was a future College Golf Hall of Fame joint-induction ceremony.

Wednesday, December 12 (Convention Day 3)

Breakout Sessions

  • V-I Interactive Frontiers Coaching System: Three instructional sessions.

  • Joan Shafer/Mitch Lawrence-Whole In One – Presentation followed by informal Q&A on coaches as catalyst of team change and cohesion.
