La Jolla, Calif. - Showing school spirit reaped big rewards at the Farmers Insurance Open on Saturday, January 26th. In a nod to its popular “University of Farmers” campaign, all PGA TOUR players and fans were encouraged to wear their University colors to the course. The fog that interrupted round three play Saturday didn’t dampen school spirit; however, as the University Day theme was extended into third round play on Sunday.
Mascots from Oklahoma State, Oregon, Florida and UNLV were also on hand for University Day festivities. They entertained the crowds throughout the day and then participated in the University Day Challenge with Rickie Fowler, Ben Crane, Camilo Villegas and Charley Hoffman. Villegas won the glass-breaking event and earned $10,000 for the University of Florida.
