La Jolla, Calif. - Showing school spirit reaped big rewards at the Farmers Insurance Open on Saturday, January 26^th.  In a nod to its popular “University of Farmers” campaign, all PGA TOUR players and fans were encouraged to wear their University colors to the course.  The fog that interrupted round three play Saturday didn’t dampen school spirit; however, as the University Day theme was extended into third round play on Sunday.

With the low third round Aaron Baddeley (68) earned $15,000 for the golf team at his wife’s alma mater, Arizona State University.

Six other players were one shot behind with scores of 69, and each earned $2,000 toward their alma mater’s golf program.  Those who finished with a 69 in round three included tournament champion Tiger Woods (Stanford), Adam Hadwin (Louisville), Hunter Mahan (Oklahoma State), Brandt Snedeker (Vanderbilt), Cameron Tringale (Georgia Tech) and Gary Woodland (Kansas).

Mascots from Oklahoma State, Oregon, Florida and UNLV were also on hand for University Day festivities. They entertained the crowds throughout the day and then participated in the University Day Challenge with Rickie Fowler, Ben Crane, Camilo Villegas and Charley Hoffman. Villegas won the glass-breaking event and earned $10,000 for the University of Florida.

Also as part of the University Day theme the first 10,000 through the gates at Torrey Pines wearing their school colors received a free gift.
