DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bobby Holden of Redlands claimed the Division III Arnold Palmer Individual National Champion Award presented by Callaway for earning medalist honors at the NCAA Championships.
Holden rallied from a first-round start that saw him 2-over thru four holes to win the Division III Championships by nine shots. He rallied the opening round by carding three birdies on the back nine to finish the day at 1-under. Powered by five birdies on day two, Holden moved 4-under - good enough to sit four shots back in second place.
He withstood the weather that forced play to be suspended in round three. While most players in the field struggled under the conditions, Holden fired three birdies and no bogeys to take the tournament lead. Three more birdies during the final round allowed Holden to move to 9-under and win going away. He was the only player in the field to finish under par.
