About the Palmer Cup

The Palmer Cup, named in honor legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, is an international golf competition that annually pits the top eight collegiate golfers from the United States against their counterparts from Europe.  This annual competition will be played at the distinguished Cassique at The Kiawah Island Club courtesy of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ: MNST), the parent company of Monster, the leading global online careers property.

The Palmer Cup is a four round match-play event. The first round of competition is a fourball (better ball) match format, followed by a set of singles matches.  The second day of the competition consists of foursomes (alternate shot) matches and another round of singles matches. Each match is worth one point.  Halved matches are worth one-half point for each team.

Administered by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the Palmer Cup presented by alternates between sites in the United States and Europe.

The inaugural matches were held in 1997, at Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Fla. Since then, the cup has traveled to the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland; the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.; Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England; Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.; and Doonbeg Golf Club in County in County Clare, Ireland.  Next year's event is set for the Old Course at Ballybunion Golf Club in County Kerry, Ireland.

The U.S. representatives are nominated by GCAA coaches and selected by the association's All-America committee. European golfers playing in the U.S. are also nominated by GCAA coaches. Additionally, the coaches for the European team, as well as International Management Group (IMG), nominate individuals for selection.
