Division II Names GCAA National Award Winners

Top Division II golfers honored
 

SAVANNAH, Ga. ?

Recipients of the Jack Nicklaus Award presented by Dillards Inc. and Hartmarx Corp., the Outback Steakhouse Arnold Palmer Award, Phil Mickelson Award, National Coach of the Year and the PING First-Team All-America in Division II were announced today following the NCAA Championships.

Dane Burkhart of South Carolina-Aiken received the Nicklaus Award presented by Dillards Inc. and Hartmarx Corp., which is presented to the outstanding player in Division II golf, and winner of the Outback Steakhouse Arnold Palmer Award after earning medalist honors at the NCAA Championship. Burkhart earned medalist honors three times this season - including the national championship. His 72.00 stroke-average ranked fourth nationally while his adjusted stroke-average was the second best in the country. In addition to his three wins, Burkhart carded nine finishes inside the top 10 - his first tournament the season was his only finish outside the top 10.

Andy Moren of Cal. State-Stanislaus was named the Phil Mickelson Award winner, which is given to the nation?s outstanding Division II freshman golfer. Moren recorded one win in his rookie campaign. His adjusted stroke-average ranked 65th nationally. Moren recorded five top 10 finishes.

South Carolina-Aiken's Michael Carlisle was named National Coach of the Year after leading the Pacers to their second of back-to-back NCAA championships.  USC-Aiken won 11 of the 13 tournaments they participated in this season with one of the losses at a Divison I event.   

The PING First-Team All Americans were Scott Brown and Burkhart of South Carolina-Aiken, Central Oklahoma?s Todd Dayton, Tim Feenstra of Western Washington, Missouri Western State?s Brice Garnett, Hawaii-Hilo?s Nick Mason, Shane Prante of St. Martin?s and Rollins? Dan Walters.
