USC-Aiken Tops in Division II GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll

Two-time defending champ?s streak at No. 1 dates back to May 2004
 

NORMAN, Okla. ?

USC-Aiken extended its streak as the top-ranked Division II men?s golf team by claiming the No. 1 ranking in the first GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches poll for the 2005-06 season. The Pacers - who received 14 first-place votes - have held the No. 1 ranking since the final poll for the 2003-04 season when they claimed the first of back-to-back national championships.

 

Cal. State-Bakersfield ranked second. Rollins - who claimed the only remaining first-place ballot - checked in at No. 3. Fourth-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State is followed by Western Washington, Lynn, Hawaii-Hilo, Cal. State-Stanislaus, West Florida and Chico State.

 

Central Oklahoma came in at No. 11 while Delta State, Columbus State, Cameron and Barry filled spots 12-15. UC-San Diego ranked No. 16 and is followed by Florida Southern, Georgia College & State Univ., Washburn and Pfeiffer.

 

Grand Canyon, Coker, North Alabama, Florida Gulf Coast and Northern Kentucky round out the top 25.

 

The GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division II GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll will be released Oct. 14.
