Brackets Set for 2003 Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship
Duke women, Florida men claim top seeds

NORMAN, Okla.? The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), in association with Hooters of America, Inc., have announced that the brackets have been set for the 2003 Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship at Barefoot Resort. Duke is the top seed for the women's event, which will be held Nov. 2-4, while Florida was named the No. 1 seed for the men, who will compete Nov. 7-9. Invitations to the 16-team modified double-elimination events, which will be held in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., are based on 2003 national championship finish and boasts one of the strongest fields in the nation. This marks the inaugural Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship for the women and the second for the men.

Duke will face No. 16 seed Purdue in the first round of the women's tournament. The winner of the Duke-Purdue match will advance to meet the winner of eight-seeded Florida against ninth-seeded Ohio State. The opening round will also feature three match-ups of conference rivals, including two from the Pac-10, when third-seeded Arizona faces No. 14 Stanford, seventh-seeded California meets No. 10 Southern California and Oklahoma State, the tournaments fifth seed, battles No. 12 Texas. In other first-round action second-seeded Auburn will take on No. 15 Arizona State, fourth-seeded UCLA duels No. 13 North Carolina and sixth-seeded Georgia tangles with No. 11 Pepperdine.

In the men's bracket, Florida will meet No. 16 Wichita State in first-round action. Last year's Match Play champion and this year's ninth seed, Augusta State faces eighth-seeded Texas in the opening round. Second-seeded UCLA battles host school and No. 15 seed NC State while third-seeded Clemson, the only school from South Carolina in either field, will battle No. 14 Auburn. Other first-round matches include a pair of Georgia schools - fourth-seeded Georgia and fifth-seeded Georgia Tech - teeing off against Pac-10 opponents No. 13 Arizona and No. 12 Southern California, respectively. Matches pitting sixth-seeded Arizona State against No. 11 UNLV and seventh-seeded Oklahoma State versus No. 10 Wake Forest complete opening round action.
