GCAA Announces Strickland Award Winner

NORMAN, Okla. ? Andy Bischel of UNLV has been named the recipient of the 2007 Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Bischel finished his ninth season with the Rebel golf program this year, leading them to 17 wins during his career.  He aids the team as an assistant coach and academic advisor.  Other responsibilities include fundraising and recruiting.  Bischel focuses his coaching career on building relationships with his players and supporting their decisions and goals.

?The Strickland Award is an award for putting yourself up against fellow coaches,? Bischel said. ?I have a lot of respect for those guys and it is such an honor to be recognized along with some of them.?

Bischel resides in Las Vegas with his wife, Shannon, and two sons.  His passion for his players and family is unmistakable.

?Coaching allows me to practice being patient with the college boys and then with my own kids,? Bischel said. ?It works out great because I have a job that I absolutely love and I have down time during the summer to spend with my family.?

The Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award is given to the NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA assistant coach that, among other things, has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom. Along with the award, the recipient is allowed the opportunity to further their professional development by being a guest of TaylorMade-adidas Golf at the PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit as well as an invitation to the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif.
