Precept Division I Coaches Poll - May 7, 2003

Clemson Remains in Top Spot in Precept Coaches Poll 
Tigers No. 1 for sixth-straight ranking

The Clemson Tigers remain atop the latest Precept Division I Coaches Poll, a position that they have held for sixth-straight rankings and for the entire spring season. The Tigers, who won the ACC Championship on April 20, earned 21 first-place votes. Augusta State, who has been ranked No. 2 four times this season, received three first-place votes and has moved back into second for the first time since March 12.

 

Clemson and Augusta State are followed by Big 12 champion Texas and ACC runner-up Wake Forest, who tallied a first-place vote. Big 12 runner-up Oklahoma State fell from second to fifth. Pac-10 champion UCLA earned three first-place votes and runner-up Arizona another to rank sixth and seventh, respectively. Florida, the SEC champion, came in at No. 8 and is followed by Conference USA champ TCU and UNLV.

 

Auburn, who made the biggest jump in the poll - from No. 16 to No. 11, earned the remaining first-place vote and is followed by Georgia and North Carolina. Georgia Tech and Minnesota tied at No. 14. NC State dropped a spot to No. 16 while Arizona State moved up a notch to No. 17. Oklahoma climbed four spots to No. 18 while Mountain West Conference champ New Mexico slid two slots to No. 19. Washington held steady at No. 20 and is followed by Illinois and College of Charleston. Arkansas and Pepperdine enter the poll at No. 23 and 24, respectively. Duke dropped six spots to No. 25.

 

Northwestern and Southern California fell from the top 25.

 

To vote in the Precept Coaches Poll, a coach must be a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The next Division I Precept Coaches poll will be released May 21.
