West Florida Tops Precept Preseason Coaches Poll
Defending national champion Francis Marion ranked fourth

 

NORMAN, Okla. ? West Florida - who finished tied for sixth at last season?s NCAA Division II National Championships - tops the 2003-04 Precept Division II Coaches Poll. Francis Marion - last season?s national champion - debuts at No. 4. Rollins College and Cal. State-Bakersfield are ranked second and third, respectively, while Cal. State-Stanislaus rounds out the top five.

 

Florida Southern College - the highest ranked team that failed to advance to the 2003 NCAA Championships - comes in at sixth and is followed by North Alabama, South Carolina-Aiken, Armstrong Atlantic and Pfeiffer.

 

Chico State comes in at No. 11 with California-Davis, Abilene Christian, Colorado-Colorado Springs and Georgia College & State University occupying slots 12-15. Central Oklahoma debuts at No. 16 and is followed by Western Washington, Kennesaw State, Grand Canyon and Cameron.

 

Columbus State, Presbyterian College, Ferris State, Valdosta State and Lynn complete the top 25.

 

The next Division II Precept Coaches poll will be released Oct. 1.
