Outback Steakhouse Sponsors GCAA Award
Palmer Award becomes the Outback Steakhouse Arnold Palmer Award

NORMAN, Okla. ? The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) is pleased to announce that Outback Steakhouse, one of the most recognized restaurant chains throughout the country, has become title sponsor of the Arnold Palmer Awards. The Outback Steakhouse Arnold Palmer Award is presented annually to the individual medallists in the Division I, II and III men?s golf national championships. Established in 1992, the award is named for legendary golf professional Arnold Palmer, who was the individual collegiate medallist as a member of the Wake Forest University golf team in 1949 and 1950. It has become one of the most recognized and sought after honors in collegiate men?s golf. Past recipients include PGA TOUR stars Phil Mickelson (Arizona State 1992), Justin Leonard (Texas, 1994), Tiger Woods (Stanford, 1996) and Charles Howell III (Oklahoma State, 2000).

"We are excited about the opportunity to be associated with such a prestigious award, especially considering the stature of the individual it is named after," said Bobby Silvest, Director of Sports Marketing for Outback Steakhouse. "When you look at the list of past recipients of the Palmer Award, it is literally a who?s who of the PGA TOUR. We look forward to working with the GCAA, not only on these awards, but with other projects in the near future."

"The GCAA, its member coaches and their student-athletes across the country are thrilled to be joined by our newest corporate partner, Outback Steakhouse, as a title sponsor for the Arnold Palmer Awards," said GCAA President Joe Feaganes. "Since its creation, Arnold Palmer Award recipients have represented the finest in collegiate golf."

"Mr. Palmer has and continues to be one of the biggest supporters of collegiate golf across the country," stated GCAA Executive Director Gregg Grost. "As a former collegiate national champion himself, Arnold Palmer?s name is synonymous with the best and the brightest in our sport. It is only fitting to have Outback Steakhouse associated with this prestigious award."

Established in 1988, Outback Steakhouse has nearly 800 locations in 50 states and 21 countries internationally. Outback Steakhouse provided patrons high quality food and service at a reasonable price. The restaurant specializes in uniquely seasoned steaks, prime rib, chops, ribs, chicken, seafood and pasta.

The Division I Outback Steakhouse Arnold Palmer Award recipient will be announced and recognized at the GCAA Division National Awards Banquet on May 30, 2003, in Stillwater, Okla. Division II and III medallists will be announced in press releases following their respective national championships. Each recipient will honored on January 28, 2004, in Orlando, Fla., at the GCAA Hall of Fame Awards Dinner.
