McGraw Named Recipient of Strickland Award
Oklahoma State assistant wins inaugural award

Oklahoma State's Mike McGraw was named the inaugural recipient of the Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award Presented by TaylorMade-adidas golf at the 2003 Golf Coaches Association of America Division I National Awards Dinner.

McGraw, who will be entering his seventh season with the Cowboy golf program, arrived in Stillwater after a highly successful stint as a youth coach in north-central Oklahoma in the 1980's and 1990's.

McGraw came to OSU from Edmond (Okla.) North High School, where he served as head coach from 1994-97. Prior to that four-year stretch, he had been the assistant coach at Edmond Memorial from 1987 to 1993.

McGraw found tremendous success in his high-school coaching endeavors, leading Edmond North to three state titles in four years and helping Memorial to six championships in seven seasons.

In four seasons at Edmond North, McGraw's teams won 36 out of 46 tournaments entered and were runners-up seven times. In his career at Edmond, he coached a total of seven individual state champions.

McGraw was named the Daily Oklahoman's Coach of the Year in 1994, 1996 and 1997. He served as the President of the Oklahoma Golf Coaches Association in 1994.

In addition to his coaching duties at the Edmond high schools, McGraw served as the junior golf director at Kicking Bird Golf Course in Edmond for many years.

McGraw received his bachelor's degree in broadcast communications from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1982. While a student at UCO, he lettered for three seasons on the golf team and earned honorable mention All-America honors after finishing 16th at the 1981 NAIA Championship.
