The 2000 edition of the championship witnessed reigning U.S. Amateur Champion, Jeff Quinney, lead the Americans to a 41-19 victory. Quinney, earning MVP honors, posted a score of 206 (-10) in 54-holes at the SCGA Members Club at Rancho Murietta, California.

The 2000 championship was the first time the event was contested in the United States since 1987, when the teams competed at Pebble Beach.

The 2001 USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship returned to Japan and Verde Sano Country Club. Located in Sano, Tochigi (approximately 60 miles north of Tokyo), Verde Sano also played host to the 1998 and 1999 championship. The Americans soundly defeated the Japanese 37-23 in the 26th Championship, July 3-5, 2001.

The United States leads the series in this medal match play event 19-6.
