Oklahoma State Still No. 1

Cowboys continue streak as nation?s top-ranked team into nationals

NORMAN, Okla. ?

Oklahoma State will continue its stranglehold atop the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll heading into the NCAA Championships. The Cowboys - who have spent virtually the entire spring ranked No. 1 - earned 25 of the 28 first-place votes to easily outdistance second-ranked Georgia.

There was no movement in the first five spots in the polls as UNLV - who received the final three first-place ballots, New Mexico and Georgia Tech followed Oklahoma State and Georgia in spots three through five. Augusta State moved up three spots to sixth on the strength of its win at the Central Regional while Florida stayed at seventh. Wake Forest made the biggest move in the poll, climbing nine spots to eighth after claiming the East Regional. Duke and Arizona State complete the top 10.

Kentucky stayed at No. 11 while SEC rival Tennessee jumped two spots to No 12. Brigham Young remained at No. 13 and is followed by UCLA, Georgia Southern and Arizona. Auburn and TCU took the biggest slide in the poll - the Tigers down from sixth to No. 17 and the Horned Frogs eight spots to No. 18 - after failing to qualify for nationals. Washington moved up for rungs to No. 23 while Texas slipped a notch to No. 20.

Georgia State reentered the rankings at No. 21 after a one-poll absence and is followed by Southern California, Alabama, SMU and Tulsa. It is the first appearance in the rankings this season for both the Mustangs and the Golden Hurricane.

Michigan State, Minnesota and South Carolina were dropped from the rankings.

The GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The final GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll will reflect the team standings at the NCAA Championships.
