Methodist Continues Hold on GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll

Monarchs continue streak as college golf's top-ranked team

 

 

NORMAN, Okla. ? Methodist continued its streak as the nation?s top-ranked men?s golf program by earning 13 first-place votes in the latest GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll. The Monarchs were the coaches preseason No. 1 pick and also held the ranking throughout the fall.

 

Four additional programs also earned first-place votes. Second-ranked Guilford and No. 5 Ohio Wesleyan garnered one first-place vote apiece while third-ranked Gustavus Adolphus tallied three and fourth-ranked Saint John?s garnered four. Oglethorpe and Wisconsin-Eau Claire held at sixth and seventh, respectively. Emory, Redlands and Greensboro each moved up one spot to complete the top 10.

 

Central and Denison also climbed one spot, to 11th and 12th, respectively. Texas-Dallas fell five spots to No. 13. Nebraska Wesleyan comes in at No. 14 and is followed by Hardin-Simmons, Skidmore and Otterbein. La Grange made the biggest move in the rankings, going from being previously unranked to No. 18. Defending national champion Averett climbed one spot to No. 19 while Huntingdon dropped to No. 20.

 

LaVerne moved one rung to No. 21 and Mary Hardin-Baylor moved up three to No. 22. Trinity University suffered the biggest tumble in the poll, falling seven spots to No. 23. Wesley and previously unranked Allegheny tied at No. 24.

Hope and Pacific Lutheran dropped from the rankings.

 

The Division III Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of Division III coaches that are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division III Precept Coaches Poll will be released March 4.
