Florida Widens Gap in  GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll

Gators earn season-high 31 first-place votes

 

 

NORMAN, Okla. ? Based on the strength of its five team championships this season, the Florida Gators widened their lead as the top-ranked team in men?s college in the GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll. Florida earned a season-high 31 first-place votes, four votes more than its previous best.

 

Defending national champion Clemson moved up one spot to second, while UCLA dropped to third, despite claiming two first-place ballots. Georgia Tech and Georgia stayed at fourth and fifth, respectively. Sixth-ranked Oklahoma State and No. 7 Arizona State flip-flopped from the last rankings. Texas jumped two spots to eighth and TCU and UNLV each slid one spot.

 

Minnesota stayed at No. 11 for consecutive polls. New Mexico and Arizona climbed one rung each to Nos. 12 and 13, respectively, and were followed by Augusta State, South Carolina, California, Wake Forest and Arkansas. North Carolina fell three spots out of a tie for No. 16 and Brigham Young was No. 20.

 

Southern California moved up one space to No. 21 and is followed by Oklahoma, who reentered the poll at No. 22. Washington, Duke and Colorado State round out the top 25.

 

Illinois dropped from the previous rankings.

The GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division I GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll will be released March 25.
