NEW YORK, NY —The first Golf World/Nike Golf Division I College Coaches’ Poll has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III, NAIA and NJCAA will appear in the March 4, 2013 issue of Golf World. California, with its sixth victory of the 2012-13 season at the John Burns Intercollegiate, kept a firm grip on its No. 1 ranking in the first Golf World/Nike Golf men's Division I coaches' poll of the spring.
The Golden Bears earned 21 of 23 first-place votes and rebounded nicely after suffering their first tournament loss of the season (a third-place showing at the Arizona Intercollegiate).
Alabama, fresh off its third straight win at the Puerto Rico Classic, moved into the No. 2 spot, claiming the two remaining first-place votes. UCLA, winner at the Amer Ari Invitational to start the spring, rose to No. 3 in the poll.
Rounding out the top five are Washington and Texas.
One new school joined the top 10: No. 10 Georgia. Three schools moved into the top 25: No. 14 TCU, No. 23 Tennessee and No. 24 Oklahoma.
