GCAA Announces The First Tee Column

As of December 6, 2010, The First Tee and Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) have formed a partnership to collaborate on various programs and initiatives to promote youth development through the game of golf. The First Tee and GCAA are currently working together to facilitate the relationships between men’s golf coaches and Chapters of The First Tee in an effort to promote high school graduation rates, college preparation and to communicate college golf opportunities.

“At the heart of The First Tee’s programs is life skills and character education that will help young people success in life,” said Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., chief executive of The First Tee. “The First Tee takes great pride in preparing young people for the future through a variety of opportunities, programs and scholarships, and an official relationship with the Golf Coaches Association of America enhances this important resource for our participants.”

“The young men and women participating in The First Tee programs across the country are the next generation of golfers and the GCAA, its coaches and their student-athletes are pleased to be associated with their development not only as golfers, but also to serve as positive role models in academics, fitness, nutrition and protecting themselves from sun damage,” said GCAA President Bruce Brockbank.

The partnership currently includes the completion of an ongoing pilot with nine chapters of The First Tee and will expand to include additional chapters during the fall of 2011. This collaboration includes staging initial large-group events at various chapters where The First Tee participants have the opportunity to interact with student-athletes and college coaches in the area, as well as providing ongoing opportunities for team clinics, Q&A sessions, volunteer/mentoring opportunities for college players, etc.

What is the purpose of The First Tee Column?

The First Tee Column will appear in the College Golf Connection on a monthly basis with the purpose of educating readers about The First Tee and our participants as well as sharing ideas and best practices related to the partnership between The First Tee and GCAA.
