CHICAGO - The First Tee program held the seventh in a series of one-day events with The First Tee of the greater Chicago Saturday, May 7 at the Marquette Park Golf Course. This event brought together collegiate players and their coaches with the youngsters from The First Tee in an effort to promote involvement between college golf programs and the next generation of players in the game.

The Greater Chicago chapter brought together more than 65 participants between the ages of 9 and 17. The four-hour event was broken down into four rotating stations that included a wellness discussion, long, short game and putting instructions for all participants. College coaches and players conducted a question and answer session with each group as well as one-on-one instruction at each station.

Four universities, DePaul, Chicago State, Loyola of Chicago and Northwestern, were represented in the 35-plus players and coaches in attendance.

“The GCAA very much appreciates the efforts by everyone involved with The First Tee chapter from the greater Chicago area,” said GCAA CEO Gregg Grost. “The enthusiastic participation by The First Tee participants, volunteers, student athletes and coaches all contributed to making this such a special event.”

“It was a thrill for our First Tee participants to meet and receive instruction from coaches and collegiate athletes on golf, wellness and academics.  It was a fun day and we really appreciate the coaches and athletes volunteering their time to work with the kids” said Rob Dauphiniais, Executive Director for The First Tee of greater Chicago.

Fall 2011 event sites and dates will be announced during the summer. For further information please contact Gregg Grost, GCAA CEO, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
