Team Announced for U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship
U.S. squad competes in Japan in July
 

NORMAN, Okla. ? The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) has announced the United States team for the Fuji Xerox U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship. The 12-member squad, consisting of eight men and four women players, will compete July 15-18 at Verde Sano Country Club in Tochigi, Japan.

UCLA?s Steve Conway, Arkansas? Andrew Dahl, Jack Ferguson and Matt Hendrix of Clemson, Chico State?s J.J. Jakovac, Tom Johnson of Northwestern, Auburn?s Jay Mundy and Ryan Quinn of Wisconsin-Eau Claire comprise the men?s team. A junior, Conway has won medallist honors twice this season and leads the Bruins in stroke average. Dahl has claimed two victories and six top-10 finishes his senior season. Ferguson, a sophomore, and Hendrix, a junior, have combined for eight top-10 finishes in helping to lead the Tigers to the No. 1 ranking all spring in the Precept Coaches Poll. Jakovac is the defending national champion in NCAA Division II and was named the GCAA Division II Player of the Year last season. Johnson, a junior, won his first collegiate event and has four top 10 finishes in 2003. Mundy also earned his first victory in his senior season and has finished no lower than 12th in a tournament this season. Quinn has claimed medallist honors three times in his senior campaign.

The women?s team consists of Leigh Ann Hardin and Elizabeth Janangelo of Duke, UCLA?s Charlotte Mayorkas and Texas? Jessica Reese. Hardin was an All-America selection last season as a sophomore and is a two-time All-ACC honoree. One of the top freshmen in the nation, Janangelo has earned medallist honors twice and garnered four top-10 finishes. A sophomore, Mayorkas has one victory and five top-10 finishes in 2003. Reese also has one tournament victory and four top-10 finishes in her senior season.

The coaches for the U.S. squad are Jack Jensen of Guilford College and Virginia?s Jan Mann. A two-time National Coach of the Year, Jensen has led two teams to national titles while Mann was named the 2002 Big South Coach of the Year and the first-ever head coach of the Virginia women?s golf program in June of the same year.

The U.S. team leads the all-time series, 20-7, and has won seven straight.
