UCO’s Creel Claims Arnold Palmer Award presented by Callaway

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Josh Creel of Central Oklahoma claimed the Division II Arnold Palmer Award presented by Callaway for earning medalist honors at the NCAA Championships.

Creel grabbed the lead after the opening round with 7-under 65. His round included seven birdies and an eagle. Creel kept his lead following the second round with 2-under 70. However, Jim Knous of Colorado School of Mines fired 3-under 69 during the early wave of the final round to move to 10-under and leader in the clubhouse.

Creel’s third round got off to a slow start when he bogeyed both Nos. 4 and 5 to fall three back before an eagle at the par 4 sixth. He dropped two shots back again after a bogey on No. 14 but collected back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to move back into a share of the lead. Creel forced a playoff with Knous with a par on 18. Creel won the first playoff hole - returning to No. 18 - with par to become UCO’s first individual national champion since 1996.
