Florida Continues Grip on Top Ranking in Precept Coaches Poll

Gators grab 20 first-place votes

 

 

NORMAN, Okla. ? The Florida Gators received 20 first-place votes to continue its grip on the No. 1 ranking in the Division I Precept Coaches Poll. Florida has held the top spot in all but the preseason ranking. UCLA earned five first-place votes and Clemson one first-place vote to stay at second and third, respectively. Georgia also stands pat at fourth.

 

Arizona State and Oklahoma State each moved up one spot - to sixth and seventh, respectively, - and is followed by TCU who fell two rungs to seventh. Georgia Tech and Augusta State also moved up a spot to eighth and ninth, respectively. Texas dropped from eighth to No. 10.

 

UNLV moved up a slot to No. 11 and is followed by Minnesota, who jumped seven spots to No. 12. North Carolina bumped up to No. 13 while Wake Forest dropped three spots to No. 14. California reentered the poll at No. 15 where it is tied with New Mexico. Washington fell one place to No. 17. Arizona picked up the remaining first-place vote despite slipping one spot to No. 18. Southern California took the biggest tumble within the rankings, dropping six spots to No. 19.

 

Oklahoma fell to No. 20 and is followed by Georgia Southern and South Carolina. Indiana and Kansas State debut in this season?s poll at Nos. 23 and 24, respectively. Arkansas fell four spots to No. 25.

Auburn, Duke and NC State dropped from the rankings.

 

The Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division I Precept Coaches Poll will be released next spring.
