Florida Edges UCLA, Clemson for Top Spot in GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll
NORMAN, Okla. ? Florida edged UCLA and Clemson to remain the top-ranked team in men?s college golf in the GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll. The Gators earned 27 first-place votes to finish 13 points ahead of the Bruins - who tallied six first-place ballots - and 20 points ahead of the Tigers - who had one first-place vote.
Georgia Tech and Georgia flip-flopped their previous rankings to hold spots four and five, respectively, and are followed by Arizona State. Oklahoma State and UNLV also traded places to rank seventh and eighth, respectively. UNLV stayed at ninth and Texas moved up one spot to reenter the top 10.
Minnesota starts the second 10 and is followed by Augusta State - who dropped two spots to No. 12 - and New Mexico. Arizona received the remaining first-place vote on the strength of two-straight tournament wins and moved up three spots to No. 14. South Carolina made the biggest move in the poll, jumping 10 spots to 15. California and North Carolina tied at No. 16 and was followed by Wake Forest, Arkansas and Washington.
Brigham Young moved up one spot to No. 21 while Duke and Southern California tied at 22. Illinois (No. 24) and Colorado State (No. 25) round out the top 25.
No teams were dropped from the previous rankings.
The Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division I Precept Coaches Poll will be released March 11.
