Sargent Named Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year
Tennessee assistant coach wins honor

NORMAN, Okla. ? Bowen Sargent of the University of Tennessee was named the Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf announced the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Sargent came to Tennessee from NC State, where he was a two-time All-America and All-ACC selection. Since joining the Tennessee coaching staff in July 2001, Sargent has been intimately involved with both the daily operations and recruiting efforts of the Volunteer golf program. He also spent one season as a volunteer assistant at Vanderbilt. Prior to entering coaching, Sargent spent nine years playing professionally. He had eight victories during his professional career.

"Obviously, to even be nominated for the Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award is a great privilege but to win is truly an honor," said Sargent. "To be recognized by the head coaches in college golf makes it truly special."

The Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf will be given to the NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA assistant coach that, among other things, has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom. The recipient of this award will have the opportunity to further their professional development by being a guest of TaylorMade-adidas Golf at the PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit, as well as, an invitation to the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif. Mike McGraw of Oklahoma State won the inaugural award last year.
