Gators Remain No. 1 in GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll

The Florida Gators are once again the top-ranked team in Division I men?s college golf in the GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll. Florida - who earned 27 first-place votes - has been ranked No. 1 in every regular-season poll in 2003-04.ACC Champion Clemson and UCLA - winner of the team title at the U.S. Intercollegiate - earned the remaining two first-place votes to rank second and third, respectively. Arizona State?s victory at its ASU/Thunderbird Invitational vaulted the Sun Devils up one spot to fourth while Georgia fell to fifth despite claiming the SEC title. Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State stayed pat at sixth and seventh. Arizona and Texas flip-flopped spots eight and nine. Minnesota moved up four spots to No. 10.
TCU dropped one spot out of the top 10 to No. 11 and is followed by South Carolina, UNLV and Brigham Young. Southern California made the biggest move inside the poll, climbing five spots to No. 15. California is once again ranked No. 16 - a spot it has held or shared the past five polls. Augusta State, New Mexico, Duke and Oklahoma round out the top 20.
Wake Forest stayed at No. 21. Arkansas took the biggest slide in the poll, falling four spots to No. 22. Washington fell one spot to No. 22 and Kentucky held steady at No. 25. Kansas entered the poll for the first time this season, debuting at No. 24.
North Carolina was dropped from the previous rankings. It marks the first time this season that the Tar Heels are not ranked in the top 25.
The GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The final regular season Division I GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll will be released May 6.
