Guilford No. 1 in Division III GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll

Defending national champion Quakers grab 10 first-place votes

Guilford opens the 2005-06 season were it ended last season - atop the Division III GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll. The defending national champion Quakers claimed 10 first-place votes to edge second-ranked Methodist, who tallied six first-place ballots. Redlands (third), Oglethorpe (sixth) and St. John?s (Minn.) received one first-place vote each.

 

Redlands was followed by fourth-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan, Greensboro. Emory was eighth while Huntingdon and Gustavus Adolphus were ninth and 10th, respectively.

 

Otterbein checked in at No. 11 and is followed by Wisconsin-Eau Claire, La Grange, Texas Lutheran, Central (Iowa), California Lutheran and LaVerne. DePauw and Illinois Wesleyan tied at No. 18. Mary Hardin-Baylor ranked 20th.

 

Franklin was No. 21 while Skidmore, Rhodes, Washington & Lee and Ohio Wesleyan complete the top 25.

 

The GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division III institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next Division III GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll will be released Oct. 14.
