Team USA to Compete in TOYOTA Junior Golf World Cup
NORMAN, Okla. – Golfers Zachary Bauchou, Tyler McDaniel, Austen Truslow and Cameron Young and head coach Mark Leroux of Missouri will represent the United States at the TOYOTA Junior Golf World Cup supported by JAL at Chukyo Golf Club’s Ishino Course. Team USA - which is sponsored by Nike Golf - has won the tournament five times since its inception in 1992 but has failed to claim the team title since 2005. The United States finished sixth last year.
Leroux just completed his 10th season as the head coach of the Missouri golf program and under his watch the Tigers have enjoyed unprecedented success, including a run of four postseason berths over the last five seasons and 18 tournament victories since 2009. Overall Leroux has guided Missouri to 21 wins in nine seasons and has more than 40 career victories at the collegiate level after starting his tenure at Austin Peay. During his seven seasons in Clarksville, Tenn., Leroux led the Governors to three consecutive NCAA Regional berths and parlayed that success by building the Tigers into conference title contenders in both the Big 12 and Southeastern Conferences.
“I’m honored to be selected by my peers as the coach of Team USA,” said Leroux. “I was so excited when I got the call from the GCAA letting me know I had been named Coach. I consider this an opportunity of a lifetime. Very few people get a chance to play or coach for their country. I’m going into this with the mindset that this might be my only opportunity to wear red, white, and blue and I’m going to give it my all!”
Bauchou, who hails from Forest, Virginia, was an AJGA Rolex First-Team All-American in 2013. He advanced to the finals of last summer’s North & South Amateur and collected runner-up finishes at the Faldo Series Grand Finale, Junior Players and Valentine Invitational. Bauchou was medalist at the Virginia State Amateur before reaching the quarterfinals.
McDaniel recently graduated with honors from Clay County High School in Manchester, Ky., and will play at Kentucky this fall. He won the 2013 PGA Junior PGA Championship where he birdied the final two holes to secure the title. He also won the Kentucky State Amateur; becoming the event’s youngest champion in 50 years and tying J.B. Holmes scoring record in relation to par. McDaniel has claimed three Kentucky Junior Amateur championships.
Truslow will compete at Virginia this fall after graduating from Lake Mary Prepatory School. He competed in the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open presented by see puertorico.com on an exemption he earned for winning the AJGA Puerto Rico Open Junior. Truslow won the AJGA The Players Championship and the Golf Pride/David Leadbetter Junior Classic. He received the 2014 Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Award and was named an AJGA Rolex First-Team All-American.
Young attends Fordham Prep in Scarborough, N.Y. Last year he won the Polo Junior Classic, the Met Junior Championship and CHSSA New York State Championship. Young also advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Junior Championship and qualified for the US Amateur Championship.
The Junior Golf World Cup, which follows a four-players-count-three scores format, will consist of four rounds played June 24-27. The TOYOTA Junior Golf World Cup 2014 Supported by JAL is the world’s only junior golf championship in which national teams, winners of regional qualifiers held across 6 continents and participated by more than 60 national teams, compete for the world champion trophy.
