Johnston Named U.S. World Junior Team Championship Coach

Central Oklahoma golf coach to lead Team USA

NORMAN, Okla. ?

Dax Johnston - head men?s golf coach at Central Oklahoma - has been named head coach of the United States team that will compete at the 2006 Toyota World Junior Team Championship. The competition will take place June 20-23 at Chukyo Country Club in Toyota City, Japan.

"Any time you get a chance to coach a team representing the United States of America, it?s the biggest honor you can receive," said Johnston. "Traveling over to Japan with four of the top junior golfers in the U.S. to defend our world championship is something in which I take a lot of pride. I know there were a lot of very deserving candidates and I?m just glad I was chosen to coach this team."

A former national champion at Central Oklahoma, Johnston is in his fifth year at the helm of the Broncho program. He has led UCO to 16 tournament titles, including two Lone Star Conference crowns and two NCAA Division II South Central Regional championships, in the past four years. The Bronchos have 40 top-five finishes in 51 tournaments under Johnston?s guidance. He has been named the Lone Star Conference and Eaton Golf Pride South Central Region Coach of the Year three times each, earning the honors in 2002, 2003 and 2005.

The Toyota World Junior Team Championship will be entering its 15th year. The United States has won seven team titles at the event, including the last two.
