Oklahoma State?s Robinson Wins Nelson Award

Award honors senior who excels on the course, in the classroom and in the community


NORMAN, Okla. ? The Golf Coaches Association of America has announced Zack Robinson of Oklahoma State the recipient of the 2006 Byron Nelson Award presented by Cleveland Golf, in cooperation with the Four Seasons Resort and Club Las Colinas and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas. Candidates for the Nelson must be a graduating senior and the selection committee will consider equally a nominee?s entire collegiate academic career, entire collegiate golf career and his character and integrity while in college. Particular consideration will be given to a nominee?s good citizenship, as portrayed by Mr. Byron Nelson over the course of his life and golf career.


Robinson - who redshirted during his first season at Oklahoma State - has already earned his undergraduate degree in political science and is currently pursuing a master?s in business administration. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, he has competed in eight events this season, garnering runner-up finishes in both The Maxwell and the Central Regional. He was named a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and the OSU

Male Student-Athlete of the Year. As a junior, he was named a third-team PING All-America selection. Robinson was also named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large first-team selection. He also garnered first-team all-conference, all-region and was chosen as a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection. Robinson ran together a string of six consecutive tournaments with a top-10 finishes that season. He earned honorable mention All-America honors during his first season of action for the Cowboys and was named a first-team Academic All-Big 12 pick.


"It is a great honor to win an award with Mr. Nelson?s name on it because he has done so much for the game of golf," said Robinson. "With me being from Fort Worth, it makes it even more special. I want to thank my teammates, coaches and family because they helped make this possible for me."
