Norway Wins 2006 Toyota World Junior Golf Team Championship by Slimmest of Margins
Norway wins by a stroke, Thorp conquers individual competition

TOYOTA CITY, Japan ? With a 6-under final round, Norway claimed the 2006 Toyota World Junior Golf Team Championship at the Chukyo Golf Club Ishino Course in Toyota City, Aichi-Prefecture, Japan by a single stroke over Sweden. The Swedes shot a final round 8-under 208 to finish the tournament at 833 (-31), bested only by Norway?s 832 (-32). Host Japan claimed third at 25-under, nine shots ahead of fourth-place finisher Chinese Taipei (-16). Norway?s Marius Thorp shot a final-round 67 to finish the tournament at 17-under, five below Sweden?s Bjorn Akessono and Naoto Nakanishi of Japan (-12).

The United States left the clubhouse without the cup for the first time in three years, finishing fifth at 12-under. Argentina (-11), Canada (-7) and The Netherlands (-5) walked off the course under par at sixth, seventh and eight, respectively. Colombia (+3), New Zealand (+5), Korea (+6), England (+8), South Africa (+9), Venezuela (+14) and Mexico (+30) rounded up the field.

Trailing the top three individual competitors were Sweden?s Jesper Kennegard and Kyle Stanley of The United States at 11-under. Norway?s Anders Kristiansen checked in at the sixth position at minus-9, a stroke in front of Yeon-Jin Jeong of Korea and Japan?s Shunsuke Sonoda (-8). Pan Fu-Chiang of Chinese Taipei (-7) and Sweden?s Robin Wingardh (-5) closed out the top 10.

American Hudson Swafford carded a final-round 69 to finish the tournament at 4-over. Also finishing at 4-over and tying Swafford for 31st was teammate Alex Volpenhein. The final member of Team USA - Jordan Cox - finished the tournament tied for 49th at 8-over.
