Cappelen, Penner Tied for Lead at The Patriot All-America Invitational

Litchfield Park, Ariz. – Sebastian Cappelen and Kevin Penner shot 2-under par 68 to tie for the lead at The Patriot All-America Invitational on the Gold Course at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Ariz. A total of 15 players are within two shots of the lead.

Cappelen began his round on No. 10 with bogey but responded with back-to-back birdies. He moved to 2-under with another birdie at No. 18 before a bogey on his next hole. Cappelen birdied the fourth and bogeyed the seventh before moving into the lead with a birdie on his final hole.

“Started out kind of shocking but I just kept hitting greens which allowed me to get back in really quickly with a couple of birdies. I just avoided mistakes. Having played the course before, knowing the greens and knowing where to go is definitely an advantage. I missed a couple of short putts today and could definitely have gone lower if I could have gotten them to fall.

Penner also teed off on No. 10 but got off to a rough start with two-straight bogeys at Nos. 13 and 14. He responded four birdies on his remaining holes including back-to-back birdies to close out his round.

“I got off to a shaky start,” stated Penner. “I wasn’t really doing anything that bad and I just stuck to my game plan and made a few putts - which was nice - coming down the stretch. There are two more days left and I’ll just keep sticking with the game plan.”

Second round action will begin at 10 am off both the 1st and 10th tees.
