UCLA Retains Top Spot in Golf World/NIKE Golf Divisoin I Coaches' Poll
NEW YORK, NY?The second Golf World/NIKE Golf Division I Coaches? Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, NIKE Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). UCLA remains the number one team in the poll, earning 12 of 23 first-place votes. The polls closed prior to the Bruins playing in the Fighting Illini/Olympia Fields Invitational, where they finished in 12th place. Also receiving first-place votes was second-ranked Southern California, which got four and plays its first tournament of the fall next week at the NCAA Preview. Rounding out the top-five are Oklahoma State (No. 3), Georgia (No. 4) and Stanford (No. 5). Chattanooga had the biggest jump, moving from unranked in the preseason poll to ninth in this week?s poll, including getting five first-place votes. To start the fall, the Mocs won the Scenic City Invitational, a tournament they host, and then won the Carpet Capital Classic, beating a field that included five top-10 ranked teams. Florida State (No. 10) cracked the top-10, after being ranked 11th in the previous coaches? poll. LSU (No. 22) and Texas Tech (No. 24) moved into the top-25.
