GCAA Launches College Golf Connection Newsletter

NORMAN, Okla. ? Throughout the past 15 years, college golf has seen amazing growth in visibility and popularity due in large part to the advances in today?s technology. As recently as 2000, the largest majority of college golf coaches primary means of communication were by phone, paper, and yes, team meetings. Recruiting was an endless stack of outdated paper resumes and an occasional video tape.

It is safe to say college golf is a whole different animal today. Smart phones and laptops are as common as hard-headed college golfers. An entirely new language is used through texting; keeping players, coaches, and the next generation recruits in constant touch. Up to date tournament results are only a click away with live scoring, while Internet TV and college golf bloggers spread the word across the country and around the world. Whether you follow Wildcats, Gators, Longhorns or Gophers, everything you could ever want to know about today?s collegiate stars is available at your fingertips.

Ten years ago, this old Sooner coach changed hats to assist the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) in supporting and promoting our game, coaches, and student athletes. Our association has grown not only in membership, but in ways unimaginable just a decade ago. Why? Because instant communication and the World Wide Web allow coaches, players, alumni and fans - as well as future generations of players - to follow the sport.

Today, the GCAA is pleased to launch the College Golf Connection, our official weekly electronic newsletter. Fifty?two weeks a year information highlighting the successes of our programs in the classroom, on the course and in our communities will be distributed worldwide. With the generous support of college golf?s friends, timely and relevant articles and video will be delivered to your computer or mobile device each Thursday. Feature articles and series covering such topics as the Rules, instruction, amateurism, academic requirements, junior golf and all things NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA will be reoccurring. Keep up with the latest polls, individual rankings, results and recruiting news with information provided by the people who make the decisions every day.

Additionally, we will provide the opportunity to submit questions on a broad spectrum of topics and issues affecting college golf or propose ideas for future articles.

Let me encourage you to take a few minutes to read the College Golf Connection and let us know what you think. We certainly hope you enjoy it and will forward it to your teammates, friends and family.
