2020 Jan Strickland Award presented by TaylorMade Golf Company Finalists Named

NORMAN, Okla. — Bill Allcorn of Oklahoma, Matt Clark of North Carolina, Jean-Paul Hebert of Texas, Duke’s Bob Heintz, David McMinn of Columbus State, and Aaron O’Callaghan of Wake Forest have been named finalists for the 2020 Jan Strickland Outstanding Assistant Coach Award presented by TaylorMade Golf Company as selected by the GCAA. The Strickland Award is presented to the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA or NJCAA assistant coach that, among other things, has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.

Allcorn is in his third season on the coaching staff of the Sooner’s Men’s Golf program. In his first three years with the Sooners, Allcorn helped lead Oklahoma to the match play quarterfinals at the 2018 championships, the 2018 Big 12 title, and a combined eight team titles. Oklahoma was also ranked #1 in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll three times in 2019-20. Prior to his time at OU, Alcorn served as a volunteer assistant men’s golf coach at Baylor, where he also worked with the women’s program in 2017.

Clark is in his third season as assistant coach at North Carolina. During his three seasons Clark helped lead UNC to three team victories, and in 2019, he helped the Tar Heels finish 15th at the NCAA Championship, the program’s highest showing in 15 years. Clark was previously a Division I head coach for 14 years – from 2008-17 at UNCW and 2003-08 at Georgia State.

Heintz is in his fourth season with the Blue Devils, coming to Duke after more than five seasons as the head men’s golf coach at the University of Pennsylvania. During his four seasons with Duke, Heintz helped lead the Blue Devils to eight team titles, a 2017 ACC Championship, and an appearance in the 2018 NCAA Championship Semi-Finals.

Hebert is into his sixth season as the assistant men’s golf coach where prior to this position he served as the team’s volunteer assistant coach for three years. Since joining the Longhorns full-time, Hebert helped coach Texas to 19 team victories, three Big 12 titles, as well as top-five finishes at four of the last five NCAA Championships, including runner-up finishes in 2016 and 2019.

O’Callaghan is in his second season as the Associate Head Coach with the Demon Deacons’, coming to Wake Forest after four seasons at the University of Louisville. During his first two year at Wake Forest, O’Callaghan helped lead the Demon Deacons’ to a combined six team titles, a match play appearance at the 2019 NCAA Championships, while also helping Wake Forest break the school record scoring average by over four shots per round.

McMinn is in his fourth season as the Assistant Coach at Columbus State, where he previously was a student assistant and was a member of the Columbus State men’s golf team. Over the course of his four years with the Cougars, McMinn helped lead CSU to three team victories as well as appearances in NCAA Division II Regionals in 2018 and 2019.
