2023 SwingU College Player of the Fall Recipients Announced
NORMAN, Okla. - Christo Lamprecht of Georgia Tech (Division I), Sangha Park of UT Permian Basin (Division II), Gonzalo Moreno of Alabama State (HBCU), Jackson Klutznick of Emory (Division III), Tom Scullion of Cumberland (TN) (NAIA), Gaspar Glaudas of Indian Hills (NJCAA Division I), and Will Burnham of Mississippi Gulf Coast (NJCAA Division II) are the 2023 SwingU College Player of the Fall recipients as announced in partnership by SwingU and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Lamprecht recorded 14 birdies and rounds of 65 and 66 (131, -9) to grab his second career collegiate victory wire-to-wire at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational September 15-16. The team field included 12 top-25 ranked teams via the preseason Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll and the win helped vault the senior from George, South Africa to the top spot in the September 20 edition of the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). The September NCAA Division I SwingU College Player of the Month, Lamprecht began October with nine birdies and a seven-under 203 (68-69-66) to earn co-medalist honors at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, falling short in a playoff. He then used 11 birdies and one eagle to aid a four-under 212 (71-76-65) at the Club of Georgia Collegiate October 13-15 and concluded the month with an even-par 72, three birdies, and a match play victory at the East Lake Cup. Ranked #2 in the initial Scoreboard powered by Clippd NCAA Division I National Rankings, Lamprecht totaled 37 birdies, one eagle, and a 68.67 scoring average over nine rounds this fall.
Park began his senior season with six birdies, an eagle, and a one-under 141 (71-70), T3 finish at the Folds of Honor Challenge September 10-11. He then went 70-69-67 (206, -10) with a tournament-best 16 birdies and one eagle en route to winning the RJGA South Central Shootout by four strokes September 25-26. With the victory, Park earned Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week and September NCAA Division II SwingU College Player of the Month honors. At the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invite October 2-3, the Cheongju, South Korea native used 15 birdies, including eight during his bogey-free opening round 63, a nine-under 204 (63-70-71), and a 35-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win his second consecutive tournament and Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week recognition. After a one-over 217 (78-69-70) at the Southwest Airlines HPU Sharks Shootout that included 14 birdies and an eagle, Park claimed victory again at the Dennis Rose Invitational October 27-28 by four strokes with 14 birdies, including 11 during his opening-round 62, breaking his own school record for lowest round, and leading UT Permian Basin to their four-shot team victory. Ranked #1 in the initial Scoreboard powered by Clippd NCAA Division II South Central Region Rankings, Park converted 65 birdies, three eagles, and a 69.39 scoring average over 13 rounds this fall.
After September results put him in T60 and T65 finishes, respectively, Moreno began his October with six birdies and an even-par 140 (70-70) to finish T5 at the SAS DI HBCU Invitational October 14-15, helping Alabama State to a second-place finish. He then used 13 birdies, including six in his opening-round 69, and a four-under 212 (69-72-71) for a three-stroke win at the Alabama A&M Invitational October 23-24 that led the Hornets to a 19-shot team victory. The performance earned Moreno Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men’s Golfer of the Week and October HBCU SwingU College Player of the Month honors. The graduate student from Seville, Spain followed by recording nine birdies, including eight and two of his last three holes during his final-round 66, and a three-under 141 (75-66) to win the HBCU Bridgestone Invitational by one stroke November 1-2, getting him his second straight SWAC Men’s Golfer of the Week recognition. In all, Moreno carded at least 36 birdies and a 72.77 scoring average over 13 rounds this fall.
Klutznick broke multiple program records with his 11-stroke victory at the Gate City Invitational September 18-19 in a field entirely filled with teams either ranked or receiving votes in the preseason Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. He converted 19 birdies, including eight and a hole-in-one (161-yard, Par 3 10th at Starmount Country Club) during his final-round 61, which broke his own school record by three strokes, and a 16-under 197 (67-69-61), which set the program record for lowest individual score in a three-round tournament, beating the previous record he held by nine strokes. The senior from Denver, Colo. and September NCAA Division III SwingU College Player of the Month led the Eagles to their 16-shot team victory and began October with 10 birdies in his nine-over 225 (79-73-73) to help Emory grab the four-shot team victory at the Tartan Invitational. After 14 birdies, including 10 during his first two rounds, and a two-over 215 (68-75-72) at the Golfweek October Classic, Klutznick went 2-0 in match play at the UAA Match Play Championship on October 18 to make the All-Tournament Team and help the Eagles share the championship. He concluded the month with 16 birdies, including a stretch of five straight on the back nine of his final round, and a two-over 218 (79-72-67) at NCAA Division III Fall Preview. Ranked #1 in the initial Scoreboard powered by Clippd NCAA Division III National Rankings, Klutznick recorded 59 birdies and a 71.25 scoring average over 12 rounds this fall.
Scullion began his sophomore season with a season-high 18 birdies and two eagles and a 15-under 201 (65-70-66) for a T3 finish at the Phoenix Invitational September 11-12. After using another 16 birdies, including 12 during his first two rounds, for a nine-under 204 (67-67-70) and T2 finish at the Blue Raider Fall Classic to close September, the Wiltshire, England native recorded three wins in three tournaments and three Mid-South Conference (MSC) Men’s Golfer of the Week honors in October. Scullion carded 13 birdies, including eight during his final-round 66, the tournament’s lowest round, for a one-over 217 (73-78-66) and playoff victory at the NAIA National Preview that included a field with 14 teams ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. He then used 12 birdies and a four-under 212 (73-70-69) to win by one stroke at the Gibson Bay Invite and concluded the month with six birdies, a three-under 141 (73-68), and another one-stroke victory at the MSC Fall Preview, earning him October NAIA SwingU College Player of the Month recognition. In all, Scullion totaled 65 birdies, two eagles, and a 69.64 scoring average over 14 rounds this fall.
After a T54 finish with three birdies at the Folds of Honor Challenge September 10-11, Glaudas recorded 13 birdies, including eight during his opening-round 64, and one eagle to lead a three-under 210 (64-74-72), T5 finish at the Zach Johnson Invitational two weeks later. In a tournament hosted by NCAA Division I’s Omaha, the sophomore from Sainte-Tulle, France carded 13 birdies and a six-under 210 (68-74-68) at the Big O Classic October 2-3 for a five-stroke victory, the third win of his career. Glaudas then recorded 11 birdies, including five and one eagle during his final-round 66, to finish fourth with a six-under 213 (74-73-66) at the Throw Down Up Top October 10-11 against a field entirely of NCAA Division I teams. His month concluded with 10 birdies and a one-under 212 (69-74-69) to finish T8 at the Thunderbird National Preview, good enough for October NJCAA Division I SwingU College Player of the Month and three straight Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men’s Golfer of the Week honors. Ranked #1 in the initial Scoreboard powered by Clippd NJCAA Division I National Rankings, Glaudas carded 50 birdies, one eagle, and a 71.29 scoring average over 14 rounds this fall.
After a T38 finish with five birdies at the Folds of Honor Challenge September 10-11, Burnham used 11 birdies, including nine during his first two rounds, to finish second with a one-over 217 (74-70-73) at the NJCAA Division II National Preview the next week and help lead Mississippi Gulf Coast to the 34-shot team victory. A two-under 142 (69-73) with 10 birdies, including six during his opening-round 69, gave the sophomore from Jackson, Miss. a T3 finish at the ECCC Invitational (MACCC #2) October 2-3, which helped the Bulldogs to their 28-shot team victory. Burnham’s first win of the season came when he recorded 10 birdies, including seven during his final-round 68, en route to a three-under 141 (73-68) and five-stroke victory at the Jones College Invitational October 16-17, leading his team to the 33-shot victory. He concluded the month with 10 birdies and a three-over 219 (70-76-73) to finish second at the Gulf Coast Invitational, leading the Bulldogs to their 22-shot team victory. Ranked #1 in the initial Scoreboard powered by Clippd NJCAA Division II National Rankings, Burnham recorded 46 birdies and a 72.33 scoring average over 12 rounds this fall.
