Dechambeau Earns Division I Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award
BRADENTON, Fla. – Bryson Dechambeau of SMU claimed the Division I Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award for earning medalist honors at the NCAA Championships.
Dechambeau opened the NCAA Championships with a 2-under 70, good for tied for fifth place after the first round. He surged into first place during the second round with 67, carding an eagle and five birdies. An even par third round kept Dechambeau one shot ahead of the field. Dechambeau was off to an uneven start to his final round - posting an eagle, two bogeys and a double bogey. He recovered with three birdies on his second nine to move to 8-under for the tournament. The leader in the clubhouse, Dechambeau watched as Washington’s Cheng-Tsung Pan cut his lead to a single stroke but on No. 17 before holding on to claim the championship.
