Showcase for High School Golfers at GCAA/WGCA Coaches' Conventions in Las Vegas
More than 200 high school golfers who have not yet signed a National Letter of Intent during the NCAA’s early signing period of Nov. 11-18, will be showcased at three events in Las Vegas, Dec. 5-6.
The AJGA’s Winn Grips / Butch Harmon Senior Showcases and College Golf Combine are being held in conjunction with the conventions for the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). More than 80 college golf coaches are expected during the weekend, and will be shuttled between the convention hotel and golf courses. Each coach will receive resume books with detailed information for all participants.
The AJGA’s Winn Grips / Butch Harmon Senior Showcases will be a 36-hole, stroke play event for boys and girls at Angel Park Golf Club. In all, 156 participants (129 boys and 27 girls) will compete during the weekend on the Mountain and Palm courses.
"These Senior Showcase events are the AJGA’s mission in action," said Mark Oskarson, AJGA chief operating officer. “One of the AJGA’s core values is to ensure that every talented junior golfer has the opportunity to earn a college golf scholarship. The chance to compete in front of the more than 60 coaches who attended our 2014 events translated into nearly 60 percent of participants earning a spot on the college golf team where they play today.”
The College Golf Combine - Coaches' Convention Combine will feature High School golfers, both boys and girls. Combines are open to all junior golfers and Junior College players. The format has Skills Challenges set-up over 9 holes and Stroke Play for 9 holes, which allows coaches the opportunity to evaluate every shot in the recruit's bag. Registration is open and then are spots available. "We are excited to host the Coaches' Convention Combine for the 7th year and provide recruits an excellent opportunity to gain exposure and be introduced to College Golf Coaches from throughout the country." said Kim Campbell, Combine Executive Director.
The AJGA also offers high school seniors one more opportunity to play for college golf coaches outside of the Las Vegas weekend. The AJGA Senior Showcase will be held Feb. 12-15, 2016 at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida. The deadline to apply is Jan. 12.
"After the success of the Senior Showcases in Las Vegas, we added another event on the East coast to ease travel demands for this important segment of our membership," Oskarson said. “We hope both will prove tremendously successful in helping more AJGA members reach their dream of playing college golf.”
