South Mountain’s Warren Claims NJCAA DII Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award
CHICAGO. – Justin Warren of South Mountain claimed the NJCAA Division II Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award for earning medalist honors at the NJCAA DII Championships.
Warren opened the tournament with even par and sat in a tie for 13th, eight shots of the lead. He followed with 1-under 71 to jump up into a tie for second but was still six strokes back. Another 71 in round three saw Warren drop into a tie for third but remain six off the pace. Warren carded six birdies in the final round, including back-to-back on Nos. 17-18 to earn a spot in a playoff after tournament leader Marco Maldonado of Tyler, who had led for 71 holes, bogeyed No. 18.
In the playoff with Kirkwood’s Whittington, both players birdied the first playoff hole. Warren would follow with birdie on No. 18 for the third time of the round to claim the championship.
The win was Warren’s second of the season.
