NORMAN, Okla. – Corey Maggard of Auburn has been named recipient of the 2018 Jan Strickland Outstanding Assistant Coach Award presented by TaylorMade as selected by the GCAA. The Strickland Award is presented to the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA or NJCAA assistant coach that, among other things, has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.

“It is a huge honor to be named the Strickland Award recipient,” said Maggard. “I am extremely grateful to have such hard-working players, support from Auburn administration, and incredible leadership under Head Coach Nick Clinard. I want to extend many thanks to the GCAA, TaylorMade Golf, and the Jan Strickland committee for their hard work during a very busy time of year.”

Maggard is now in his fourth season at Auburn under head coach Nick Clinard, and his second as Associate Head Coach. He was a finalist for the Strickland Award in 2017 and semifinalist in 2016. The Tigers have posted four tournament wins this season, including the SEC Championship, and have placed no worse than tied for sixth in 12 events. Trace Crowe claimed medalist honors at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate and is one of nine Auburn golfers to place in the top 10 individually this season.

In the three seasons prior, Maggard helped lead Auburn to as high as No. 2 nationally in 2016-17 and the team claimed 11 tournament victories. Five Tigers were named All-SEC. Auburn has earned All-Academic Team recognition all three seasons.

Previously Maggard was head coach at Guilford and assistant coach at Transylvania.

“I’m extremely proud of Corey and it’s exciting to see him win this prestigious award,” stated Clinard. “He’s been a huge asset to our golf program and works diligently every day to help our student-athletes be successful in all areas of their lives. His passion to help young people is inspiring and I’m very happy for him to receive this honor.”

TaylorMade has sponsored the Strickland Award since its inception in 2003.
