Division II Jack Nicklaus Award presented by Barbasol Finalists Announced

NORMAN, Okla. – Five finalists have been named for the 2019 Division II Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol. Christian Bosso of West Florida, Sam Broadhurst of Lincoln Memorial, Barry’s Jorge Garcia, Juan Jose Guerra of Nova Southeastern, and Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Zach James are finalists for the award. The winner will be announced May 30. The Award presentation will be held at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, and presented by award namesake Jack Nicklaus during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide.

In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the five recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s Barbasol Championship, held July 18-21, at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Ky. The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 1 at The Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio - the same club where Jack Nicklaus played collegiate golf for the Buckeyes.

Bosso has three tournament victories in 2018-19. The senior posted five additional top 10 showings. Bosso paced the Argos with seven rounds in the 60s and 20 rounds of par or better. He was named All-Gulf South Conference first team.

Broadhurst, the South Atlantic Conference Golfer of the Year, has produced four victories during his senior campaign. Additionally, he has posted five additional top 10 finishes. Broadhurst has posted a 70.75 stroke average this season.

Garcia, a senior, was named Sunshine State Conference Golfer of the Year following four tournament victories in 2018-19. He finished in the top seven in all 11 of his tournaments this year and posted a scoring average of 69.76 across 33 rounds.

A First Team All-Sunshine State Conference pick in 2019, Guerra has racked up three wins. The senior also placed in the top 10 in five additional events. Guerra did not finish outside the top 10 in 11 tournaments.

James, a senior, was also a Nicklaus finalist last season. He has picked up five individual titles in his 12 tournaments this season and has four runner-up finishes. The Great American Conference Player of the Year, James has not finished outside the top four this campaign.

Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Award in 1988 and it is now presented to the National Player of the year in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as NAIA and NJCAA.
