2010 GCAA Convention Expects Record Attendance

NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America is currently preparing for our annual National Coaches Convention, to be held Dec 6th thru 8th at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas.  This year will mark the 26th year our convention has been held.

Based on early registration, this year’s convention attendance appears to be on pace to break all GCAA records.   An outstanding list of speakers and educational sessions are on the schedule, including a keynote address by PGA Tour great Johnny Miller.   In addition, annual educational sessions on NCAA Rules and Compliance and USGA Rules will be held.

As a part of the ongoing review of speed of play issues in college golf, a Pace of Play Forum will give all attendees the opportunity to better understand the challenges that we all face and propose ways to address these. Matt Thurmond, Head Coach at the University of Washington, will provide information on “ Under Four “, a new approach to tackling pace of play issues in college golf.

On Wednesday, coaches will be treated to an in-depth look at how to improve their players performance by better understanding the equipment they use. “Golf Equipment 101” will feature representatives from Golf Pride, True Temper, and Mitchell Golf breaking down the individual components of the clubs used by teams. These details will challenge our coaches to become more aware of today’s equipment changes.

While education and spirited debate on the direction of college athletics will be the primary theme of the convention, recognition of our member coaches’ accomplishments will be highlighted at our National Awards Banquet. The Hall of fame Class of 2010 will be inducted and our Coaches of the Year from 2010 will recognized in front of their peers. All in all, this convention will be the place to be for college golf coaches.
